Coney Island Sound is a new project started by Ewan Gordon that mixes a variety of musical elements. A patchwork of found sounds and environmental recordings forms a backdrop for a variety of acoustic and vintage instruments. Accordions and Harps rub shoulders with Casios and Kaoss Pads. Acoustic guitars and unusual rhythm sources construct more familiar song structures. Friends from across the world contribute vocals and lyrics and allow songs to develop in all sorts of directions.
The music follows a more experimental direction and began alongside his endeavours with Olympic Lifts. It was whilst playing and DJing with the likes of Four Tet, Royksopp, Ladytron, Mina, Notwist, Lo-Fidelity Allstars and Ugly Duckling that he first started mixing environomental audio with folk elements collecting ideas on Dictaphone tapes.
Coney Island Sound's first posting is Bring My Love's Unwanted Arrows featuring a vocal from Bod of Fonda 500. It evolved from cutting together found Maori folk song records and is currently available on the acclaimed I Can Count Vol.2 compilation. The compilation recently featured on Huw Stephens and Rob Da Bank's BBC Radio 1 shows and brings together a host of upcoming electronic talent.

Lately!:
".......Using an array of synthetic instruments, keyboards, pianos, found sound, and a slew of guest vocals, Ewan is creating an awesome sound all his own. Sure comparisons can be made to practically anyone who uses those elements to make their own electronic type of music, but that seems to dim the creativity behind a project like Coneyislandsound....."-Pop Tarts Suck Toasted NYC

Much Love From The Island
Brian Eno Cover? Jul 7
Yes indeedy:
The piece expands upon a couple of the themes but tries to keep the number of instruments down to a minimum. There are multiple layers of treated sound and guitars but hopefully they all gel together.....Serve nicely chilled for a quiet Saturday afternoon

And Then? "...Coney Island Sound blend their sounds with acoustic dreams and layers of harmonies, but there's still time for a flicker of programming along the way.....I Can Count never go for the conventional and it's so easy these days for anyone to knock out a compilation of trendy sounds. ICC however have gone that extra mile and plucked out total unknowns who are striving to muck around with the electronic genre and to push out into new frontiers. It's a wonderful piece of work that brings a dozen new and interesting acts onto your record player....." Manchester Music Review July 2007

And Also: "............The mathematically astute I Can Count label has a finely tuned ear for home made pop and design. Think of an early Mute/Rough Trade version of Kitsuné that's looking for the next Hot Chip. You get the feeling Peel would love to be introducing these bands in his sarcastic way, "don't know anything about Coney Island Sound, are they from Norwich?".................but there are a few diverse standout tracks. Like 'Bring My Love's Unwanted Arrow' with a very mellow Tunng feel to it.............." FLY Review July 2007

Apparently: "......Slowing down proceedings even more are Coney Island Sound with their sedated and vintage patchwork of sounds throughout 'Bring My Loves Unwanted Arrow'(vocals courtesy of Fonda 500's Bod).......an irresistible collection of some the best in home-grown raw talent and refreshing to hear music for music's sake by those in the know and more importantly who give a shit. Whether you're an electro connoisseur or simply a curious novice, I Can Count 'Volume 2' is saturated with electronica in all its forms and is a good a place as any to start exploring." "We all admire the spangled acrobat with classical grace meticulously walking his tight rope in the talcum light; but how much rarer art there is in the sagging rope expert wearing scarecrow clothes and impersonating a grotesque drunk! I should know." Thank you for your friendship! Musical greetings from Munich/Germany!

It's always a pleasure to bring up your page at the end of a long lab day. Everyone else usually takes off, leaving me to my final thoughts and various projects, and this virb page is one of the best to help me relax and unwind over what happened throughout the day/week. Thanks for the great music :D
