Sunny Day Sets Fire's Stranger / Remix EP out on February 26th - purchase it here.
Theirs is no ordinary story and the events that conspired to draw these five individuals together couldn't have been more unlikely but it goes some way to explaining why this multinational union is so wonderfully unique. Gravitating from such far-flung corners of the globe as Italy, Hong Kong, the UK and Canada their sound spans 15 timezones; 3 languages and 5 wildly contrasting lifestories (that could probably get lost in translation) and, as such, it's no surprise that the now London-based 5-piece can offer such a refreshing take on psychedelic and experimental pop. The result is a colorful, inventive kaleidoscope of sounds and textures; shimmering melodies swim in shoals around leviathan rhythms. Plumbing to emotional depths, boldly original and yet still catchy enough to appeal to all. Even though they grew up thousands of miles apart the five find a unity in their music.
Founding members Onyee and Mauro met while working as ushers at their local cinema and began writing songs together, joined soon after by Max. Sunny Day Sets Fire was born! By the middle of 2005 the band had begun to find their direction and, with the further addition of Ed and Matthew, were committed to their twisted-pop agenda and churning out songs that reverberated with the spirit of the Flaming Lips or Architecture in Helsinki.
After a couple of years gigging, writing and reckless experimentation with hundreds of weird and wonderful instruments and sounds, the band buried themselves in the studio and set to work recording a collection of tracks that reflected their shared love of - 60's psych, the Beach Boys, classic Sun rock 'n' roll and far beyond.
The band signed to American indie label IAMSOUND Records in the summer of 2006, releasing their four-song Brainless EP later that year. . IAMSOUND is releasing a remix EP titled Stranger / Remix on February 26th to set the scene for the hotly-tipped, forthcoming debut full length album in April 2008. The EP features remixes by CSS, XXXChange from Spank Rock, The Cool Kids, Mad Decent/ Diplo and more. Look for Sunny Day Sets Fire to tour in 2008 and bring their summery, psychedelic sounds to American shores.
