Chupa Chowdy was started in order to supply beautiful, unique girls with the super cute knit clutches, handbags and wallets they need to make a statement or just to complement their individuality and unique tastes.
how it began...
Just a month prior to moving from Sacramento to Portland, OR, my purse was swiped at the end of our vacation in the rush to the airport back home. Needless to say that a lot of very expensive items were lost and have yet to be replaced. But this is not about the digital camera or cellphone; no, rather it is about the emptiness I felt at the loss of my beloved cosmetics clutch. At the time, I was in such a knitting fever that I hastily knitted a replacement to cope with the deep loss I felt. The relief and joy was immediate. And I thought to myself, how can I not share this with the world? with girls like me? girls that just need an amazingly cute, unique knit clutch, handbag or wallet?
So, I made Chupa Chowdy (yeah...), which was stolen from my boyfriend, who sleepily said "chupa chowdy," after I had noted how "super cloudy" it was out on the drive from Sacramento to Portland. Everything I make is completely done by hand (as I have really not gotten a handle on my sewing machine yet), and 100% original. I use no patterns and I don't write any patterns up for the items I make.
