Chris Schlarb is a musician and writer living in Long Beach, California. In the late 1990's he co-founded the free form ensemble Create (!) and founded record label/film house Sounds Are Active.
Chris has written about music and literature for Sound Collector Audio Review, L.A. Record, Dailysonic, Bandoppler, The Topeka-Capital Journal, and LAist.com.
After producing the jazz-folk public domain album Liz Janes & Create (!) for Asthmatic Kitty Records, Chris formed the free jazz/drone duo I Heart Lung with drummer Tom Steck in 2004. The group soon toured the country alongside Castanets and Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice and released a limited edition 12" with Castanets.
In 2006 Chris produced and released the Sean Carnage directed film 40 BANDS/80 MINUTES! which Ann Powers of the L.A. Times described as "frenetic... the spirit of this über-independent effort can't be denied." The film featured then little known bands HEALTH, Wives (No Age), Gowns and Abe Vigoda as well as Schlarb's own duo I Heart Lung.
In 2007 Chris released the first album under his own name, Twilight & Ghost Stories, a massive five-year work with over forty collaborating musicians including Sufjan Stevens, Dave Longstreth of Dirty Projectors, Half-Handed Cloud, Mick Rossi, Walter Kitundu, Languis, Ray Raposa, Sebastian Krueger and others.
He is currently signed to the Asthmatic Kitty record label.
