the broken orchestra of winnipeg is an improvisational and experimental, almost jazz ensemble that has been performing since february of 2005. it was started as a concept for leader christopher friesen's 'unravelled brown cassette tape lying on a freeway' project. inevitably, as all things evolve, 'ubclf' evloved into 'unravelled broken orchestra' and thusly became 'broken orchestra of winnipeg.'

Broken Orchestra - greetings from across the pond. Like the concept. Have you heard of the Porsmouth Synphonia, on of Gavin Bryars' projects, - they were a similar "broken" orchestra, and the entrance criteria was hat you couldnt play the instrument. It produced some truely spectacular results. See them on Wikipedia athttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portsmouth_symphonia
