Army Of Me

Rock / Alternative / Indie

Washington, DC

Biography

What defines and indie band? Being signed to an independent label? Yes. Home-funded, non-stop touring? Yes. Self motivation? Yes. On paper, Army of Me is the quintessential indie rock band. But the record they made could possibly transcend that. "We are trying to be one of the best bands you will ever see", says lead singer Vince Scheuerman during and interview with Alternative Press magazine (June 2005). Army of Me had just been named one of the top unsigned bands in America by the influential rock magazine, and the article started a barrage of major label interest for the Washington DC based band. On the surface, the music of Army of Me could fit snuggly into the playlist of any mainstream radio station. The heart and big songs are more reminiscent of early Oasis, and R.E.M. than quirkily trendy indie pop. Below the surface, however, Army of Me carries a uniquely uplifting message and the self-starter scars of one of the hardest working bands out there. Vince (lead vocals/guitar), Brad Tursi (guitar), and Dennis Manuel (drums), formed Army of Me in 2001 and defined their sound with continuous touring of the Northeast, South, and mid-Atlantic of the US. Opening for bigger acts throughout the process, they developed their own "army" of fans, leading to sold out shows at DC's famous 9:30 club, and various clubs in New York City. Their touring success was only part of the story. "Come Down to DC", an epic ode to their roots, was added into full rotation on DC101 in the Fall of 2005 - just the second time in the station's history that they added a song from an unsigned band. Sirius Radio's "Alt Nation" picked up on the buzz as well, and added "Going Through Changes" to it's play list, eventually making the song the #4 most requested and played song on the station - yet another amazing feat for an unsigned band. And now the band in no longer unsigned. Snapped up by the prolific Doghouse label (the launching pad for such acts as All-American Rejects, Say Anything, and The Honorary Title), Army of Me are set to properly release their debut LP, CITIZEN, in the Spring of 2007. Army of Me is hovering over the line between indie and mainstream. It is in your best interest to discover them now.
