Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" is one of the greatest novels ever written. It's a book about burning books, infringing media, slowly and definitely taking over the world, people who are sad, and longing, but feel they aren't because they don't have time to think! Sound familiar? The book was written in its short form in 1950, and elaborated on in 1953. How could Ray Bradbury have possibly known that the world would turn out this way? He is also one of the best writers I have ever had the pleasure of reading. "Dandelion Wine" is a close second, but almost as close as all of his other books. I also like to read Kafka, because of his ability to use writing to distort time. Nabakov is also brilliant, and you'd probably agree if you have ever read "Lolita", which somehow turned me into Lolita for a while, a slender Nymphette. Books can give you what television will never have the ability to, quiet, contemplative, passion surges.
I like to surf, climb, run....sit on my butt. Not in that order.
