number 4. i broke into the railyards in prince george when i was nineteneleven. it was raining and cold and everything peeling; the city all sprawling low in the gut of the country, the belly of the land, like an unborn child or a poisonous fruit. o! the gravel under my feet and all the wheat cars waiting to go! disused and disuseful and all raw and red like my small, panicked heart. how the lanterns swung from the eaves of the warehouses! how the blackberries pushed through the fence! how the crows startled from their perch on the telephone wire, and how my shutter stuck open and left me a single streaky negative to remember by.

"I am invisible [...]. And Exempt. Immunity has been granted to me, for I do not lose my cool. Polarity is selected at will, for I am not ionized, and I possess not valence. Call me inert and featureless but Beware, I am the Shadow, free to cloud men's minds. Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? I am the Dracula, look into my eye." --From Richard FariƱa's Been Down So Long It Looks Like Up To Me (1966).
